When the first few cold fronts start moving down into West Central Florida, the kingfish show up in abundance. And with the fish, come the tournaments.
The Old Salt 2021 King of the Beach tournament attracts anglers from all over the state to fish for a variety of Mackerel, the most prized being the King Mackerel. November fronts bring with them their fair share of foul weather, and this tournament was no different.
Downriggers play an essential role in the king fishing community. Troll-Master stopped by the community party and weigh in; it was great to see all of our Seahorse Downriggers on the tournament boats and also wonderful to see the kingfish crowds back in action. Weigh-in day produced decent kings despite the weather the prior day.
Team 99 Problems taking first overall. They received first place in multiple divisions including the “Smoker” division, with a 34.53lb Kingfish! The team took home $25,000.
November and December should continue to have excellent kingfishing opportunities here in West Central Florida! Make sure you're prepared with all of your trolling accessories. And if you're in Florida and haven't picked up your own Seahorse Downrigger, now is a great time!
